A Guide to Avoiding Pitfalls and Selecting the Right LED Display for Retail Stores
With increasingly fierce competition in the offline brick-and-mortar business, many brand stores are installing LED displays to broadcast new product announcements, promotional offers and attract passersby. However, choosing the right LED display for a retail environment requires careful consideration of installation location, screen shape, power supply reliability and maintenance methods. This guide walks you through the key factors to avoid common pitfalls and select the optimal solution for your store.
The usage requirements vary greatly in different locations, so the same solution cannot be applied directly.
Street-facing shop window displays: Directly facing the street and exposed to natural daylight, the key is to ensure sufficient brightness so that passersby can clearly see the content. P3 high-brightness modules are typically recommended for window displays, with brightness of at least 2500 nits to overcome sunlight glare.

In-store image background screen: Located at the flagship store front desk and atrium backdrop, this screen attracts close-up views from customers and is frequently used for store visits, photo shoots and brand storytelling. A finer pixel pitch such as P1.86 or P2 is recommended for close viewing distances, ensuring delicate image quality without visible grain.

Cashier lane and corridor long advertising screens: Mainly for continuously pushing promotional activities. Due to limited installation space, lightweight and thin models should be given priority. P2.5 or P3 modules in slim cabinets are ideal for these narrow, long-format installations.

Many brand stores want irregularly shaped screens to match their interior design, so it is important to communicate with the store owner in advance when selecting a custom screen.
Standard modules offer faster delivery and lower costs. Irregularly shaped screens require prior confirmation of module specifications and curvature design. For new store renovations, it is best to determine the screen shape before finalizing the interior design, so that the structural framework and wiring can be planned accordingly.

Retail store displays are often powered on for more than ten hours a day, running continuously year-round. The power supply is like the heart of the entire screen. If the power supply fails, the screen will experience flickering, black spots or complete shutdown. Therefore, choosing a reliable power supply is critical for long-term stable operation. Below are two commonly used power supply models from Junneng Weiye.

Junneng Weiye JPS500PV4.2-3.2A67-EC:
– Output power: 500W Max
– Leakage current: <1mA (Vin:230)
– Operating temperature: -30 to 70 degrees Celsius
– Heat dissipation method: self-cooling
– Storage temperature: -40 to 80 degrees Celsius
– Input voltage: 100-240Vac, 47-63Hz
– Protection functions: input undervoltage protection, output current limiting, output short circuit protection.
– Power factor: 0.95 at 230Vac
– Dimensions: 185 x 61 x 26.5 mm

Junneng Weiye N200V5-M:
– Output power: 200W Max
– Leakage current: <=1mA (Vin=230Vac)
– Operating temperature: -30 to 60 degrees Celsius
– Heat dissipation method: self-cooling
– Storage temperature: -40 to 85 degrees Celsius
– Input voltage: 200-240Vac, 50-60Hz
– Protection functions: input undervoltage, overload, output current limiting, short circuit, overtemperature.
– Power factor: >=0.40
– Dimensions: 140 x 59 x 30 mm
Window display screens (indoor/outdoor installation): Divided into two categories: post-maintenance outdoor iron box screens and transparent screens. Transparent screens have a higher aesthetic appeal and allow natural light to pass through, making them suitable for high-end storefronts where visibility into the store is important.
Embedded installation: The wall opening is pre-reserved with a 25 mm widening on each of the four sides, and the overall thickness is reserved to be 8-9 cm. Construction should be carried out in advance during the store renovation phase. Also, reserve 2-3 spare power cables and network cables for future maintenance and upgrades.
Three options for the front maintenance enclosure:
– Magnetic hard connection: A new product with high cost and complex process. It has weaker waterproofing than the back lock screw type and is suitable for high-profit orders.
– Pre-connection maintenance: Moderate cost, but there is a risk of water ingress due to magnet misalignment, although the overall waterproofing test is passed.
– Standard pre-installation maintenance: The cabinet is about 14 cm thin, requiring no complex steel structure and is easy to install. However, the installation of the large screen at high altitude requires professional rigging.
When selecting LED screens for retail stores, everything should be based on the actual usage scenario. Choose the screen specifications according to the installation location, and plan the screen shape and power supply before the renovation begins. Prioritize reliable power supplies for long operating hours, and select the appropriate maintenance method based on your installation environment and budget.
